MIMI AND THE ORPHANS:

On a hot summer night, we brought four little orphaned kittens into our care, we named them Monty, Marley, Moya and Marty . They were thin and weakened by the heat, and we knew we had a mountain to climb.
Thankfully they began to put on a little weight and they accepted their kitten milk and baby food well, but little kittens need their mum, and we weren’t really a substitute for her.
We also brought in a young pregnant female, a calico girl called Mimi. She was underweight and it was clear that life had been a struggle for her, but despite that, she was a sweet and friendly cat. All seemed to be going in the right direction, when she suddenly gave birth prematurely, and sadly, despite all best efforts, none of her kittens survived.
Mimi was ready to be a mother, but had been cruelly left without her kittens. It was then that she heard our orphans crying and she called to them. It was like a miracle – could these four little motherless mites have a mother after all? and could Mimi have the kittens she needed?
We picked them up and placed them in Mimi’s bed, hoping that this would be a healing moment for all of them. Within moments she began washing them and they were taking her milk, and the perfect pairing had happened.
Over the next few weeks, Monty, Marley, Moya and Marty grew and blossomed with the love and care of their adoptive mum, and Mimi was spared the confusion and sadness of the loss of own kittens.
Little kittens not only need their mother’s milk, but also her close attention and warmth in order to develop as they should. Although they would have been ok with just our care, our little orphans truly thrived once Mimi adopted them.
Mimi has now moved on to her new forever home, and we are so happy for her. She is a sweet natured, loving girl, and we were lucky to have had her in our care.
